Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Enhancing Energy Efficiency in BuildingsMalcolm Anson, President Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) explains the need for effective management of buildings to enhance energy efficiency.

“Installing buildings controls or a building energy management system can bring an array of benefits.  An effective BEMS can offer long term cost effective solution to measuring, monitoring and managing the energy performance of building services including Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning.

One good example of how a BEMS can improve the energy performance of a building is demonstrated by last years’ winner of the BCIA Energy Management Award, Next Control Systems.

Next Control Systems installed an energy engineering BEMS which uses demand-led control strategies to utilise building services only when ‘point of use’ conditions demand.

The store’s carbon output has been reduced by 938 tCO2e per annum.  This highly efficient solution offers the benefits of remote monitoring, diagnostics and analytics to ensure store performance meets the partnership’s estate standards.”
